The weather has been really good lately in Autumn. I decided on getting to the school again on Saturday since there was no wind and blue sky.I ran 2 batteries just getting used to the basics again. The last battery I decided to try some backflips as I knew I was ready and it worked very well.Heres the clip.
Back to the basics in flying.
•April 22, 2012 • Leave a CommentDecided to test out the heli at the school today after finishing the rebuild. After my last crash in attempting the backflip I decided to just start practising some basic flying again. But only lasted on 2 batteries when one of my servos decided it wouldn’t move. Luckey I was just starting to lift off and the pitch servo would not rise. Not to sure what the problem was because when I took the servo off and tested it with my servo tester it worked?I was still getting the occasional bit of shaking when I was flying so I dropped the gain down a bit more on the roll and the pitch through the usb zyx gyro. Here is a list of parts that I had to replace after the crash: Feathering Shaft (bad bend), main shaft(slight bend) ,Tail Boom (small bend at the start), main Gear(totally stripped), tail drive gear(not running straight), Stainless Steel Linkage (was knocked of and bent), Torque Tube Front Drive (very slight damage but needs to be replaced) ,Landing Skids(front skid broken in half) and of course the carbon blades totally smashed.Probably about $30 worth of damage + shipping.
My First backflip
•April 9, 2012 • Leave a CommentAfter testing the new heli for a couple of runs I felt like I was ready to do something daring. I decided it was time for a backflip attempt even through I haven’t even done any sort of basic flying, like circuits or figure eights. After a few beers it was time. I did a couple of pirouettes and then I flicked the idle up switch I really wasn’t sure how to do them but just tried the same thing I would do on the simulator. It worked so I did 3 more then landed the heli.Unfortunitly my luck ran out and I crashed into a car on my next attempt.Bugger now I have to rebuild it and order more parts. The area I was flying wasn’t really big enough to be trying anything too difficult ,so next time I will take it to the field but it was still fun.
More upgrades and now ready to fly.
•March 31, 2012 • Leave a CommentI decided to change the tarot motor and tarot esc. I brought from Hobby King a Turnigy trust 45A SBEC Brushless Speed Controller with a programme card and a Turnigy Typhoon 450H 2215H Heli Motor 3550kv (450 class). So far I’m impressed with the results from just hovering and a good price at $35 for both. The ESC is a lot bigger than the other one but fits nicely down the bottom on the side.I had to extend the esc to motor leads which I took off from my first tarot esc.I had to solder more bullet connections on the other end of the leads. I changed the pinion from a 14 T to a 13T on the motor and brought a 500 size Vertical Carbon Stabilizer to match the 500 size skids.
The Build
•March 11, 2012 • Leave a CommentThe build has been completed. The head was alot easier to do as there was no flybar to be added.I had to buy some extension cables for the servos as the wires wouldn’t reach to the zyx gyro. The zyx setup was a bit time consuming setting up but was alot easier to do with the usb adapter. I still havn’t fully got it set up the way I like it yet but at least its able to hover.
